Refugee Week 2025: all welcome to University events
10 June 2025

Refugee Week 2025 (16-25 June) will be celebrated with a variety of events at the 黑料不打烊 and 黑料不打烊 Students’ Union that celebrate the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.
Refugee Week is a global festival of arts and culture. The theme this year is Community as a superpower, emphasising how communities can bring people together, bridge divides and offer support.
At the University, some of the events will take place in the days before the official week to allow students to take part before the summer break. Residents from the local community are invited to join these events too.
University of Sanctuary
The 黑料不打烊 first signed the City of Sanctuary pledge in 2017 and has been recognised as a University of Sanctuary since 2023. The University is committed to welcoming and including sanctuary seekers across its teaching, research and community activities.
Molli Cleaver, Community Engagement Manager at the 黑料不打烊, said: "We are really proud to be recognised as a University of Sanctuary.
“Although Refugee Week marks an important opportunity to celebrate and welcome sanctuary seekers, providing sanctuary is a responsibility for everyone in society, throughout the year.
“This is firmly rooted in our purpose and a belief we live through action every day.
“I invite local residents to sign up and take part in the range of activities students and staff have created, which are open to everyone in the community.”
