Digital Research Strategy

The primary objective of this strategy is to cultivate an environment and culture that effectively nurtures research, while concurrently investing in research infrastructure and support systems. The strategic work is underpinned by the values the University espouses and they offer inspiration for this strategy in several aspects; harnessing the power of community, promoting ‘change maker’ behaviours and enhancing a principled approach.

Strategy principles linked to core UoR strategies

Each pillar theme and many of the individual sub-themes reflect similar objectives with one or more of the leading university strategies; the Research & Innovation (R&I) Strategy, the Digital Strategy and the Internationalisation and Global Engagement Strategic Framework.

Governance

To ensure the successful delivery of our Digital Research strategy, a dedicated steering committee has been established to provide expert guidance, oversight, and direction.

This committee is responsible for the complete lifecycle of the strategy, from planning to implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Guidance: Provide advice and direction to ensure the Digital Research strategy aligns with wider University goals, including the Digital Strategy and the Research and Innovation Strategy.

  • Ownership and Planning: Take full ownership of the strategy's implementation, including creating a detailed plan and prioritising key topics and initiatives.

  • Supporting Progress: Actively consider, coordinate, and support the development of proposals and business cases that advance our strategic objectives. This includes reviewing financial aspects and proactively supporting funding applications for priority projects.

Composition and Structure

The steering group brings together key stakeholders from across the University to ensure a balanced and representative perspective. Membership includes an equal number of colleagues from:

  • The research community

  • Digital and Technology Services (DTS)

  • Research Enablers (e.g., Library, Research & Enterprise Services, Communications)

The committee has been formed with its own Terms of Reference (ToR), which will formalise its scope, responsibilities, and ways of working.
