Event Information
Stephen Unwin is a leading theatre director and playwright. He is also the father of a young man with severe learning disabilities and is a champion for the rights and dignities of people like him. His most recent book, Beautiful Lives: How We Got Learning Disabilities So Wrong was published in June 2025, and is a cultural, philosophical and political history of this forgotten minority, and an exploration of the contradictions and challenges of today. In some ways this is a dark history and we do no-one any favours off we ignore the cruelty and neglect which has been so common. Stephen is, however, committed to helping to shape a better future and provide the resources of hope. Some may find this discussion challenging or upsetting, and may not be suitable for young children. Please visit the Centre For Autism Wellbeing Hub website for more information.
