Celebrating multiculturalism, the Global Study Lounge is the University’s centre for global engagement, intercultural communication and understanding, and academic support for international students.

Starting life as the Self-Access Centre for Language Learning, from Spring 2022 the space in Edith Morley 230 has been reimagined and evolved into the Global Study Lounge to meet the needs and demands of an increasingly internationalised and globally engaged student body. 
 

What is the Global Study Lounge?  

The Global Study Lounge is a multi-purpose facility that welcomes all students, staff, and the wider university community. It supports and facilitates global engagement and intercultural communication through its programme of events, its hosting and signposting, and volunteering opportunities. 

•  The Global Study Lounge supports our international students across all levels of study and entry points, with their transition, academic studies, and socialisation for the entirety of their time at 黑料不打烊
• Provides a space for all students to explore opportunities for global engagement and to develop their intercultural understanding and communication skills, bringing home and international students together in a hub at the centre of our Whiteknights campus.
• Gives students a welcoming central space to relax, socialise, and study during the semester and beyond.

What can I do there? 

The Global Study Lounge offers you a place to study and socialise; supporting your development and learning. There are group study desks with many power outlets, coffee-shop style seating and sofas, and there are even private bookable pods with display screens available for use! 

Whether you’re interested in learning about other cultures or a language, finding out more about the world, studying or working abroad, developing life and study skills, or simply meeting other students from diverse backgrounds, then the Global Study Lounge and its activities allow you to explore any of these paths as you navigate through, and become part of, our global community. By studying at 黑料不打烊, you are part of a truly international community of more than 5000 international students from over 165 countries; the Global Study Lounge is your gateway to discovering, and making the most of, this network!  

Complimentary to the Library and 黑料不打烊 Students’ Union, the Global Study Lounge hosts activities from Academic English, the Global Graduates Programme, Life Tools, Study Advice, Foundation Maths and Subject Support, Study Abroad and Student Services, as well as an array of social events from staff and student groups. Events are free and often include free refreshments!

Where is it and when is it open?

The Global Study Lounge is in the Edith Morley building, room 230 on the second floor. Enter Edith Morley via entrances 1 or 2, then follow signs from the foyer. 

It has open access Monday – Friday from 08:00 – 18:00 during both semester and vacation periods. Staff and student groups can also book the facility for events and activities, including on weekends and out of hours by arrangement. Please remember to check the timetable on the door before entering!
